The archipelago is not an independant country but an autonomous part of Finland. Their autonomy is linked with the fact that the official language of those islands is not Finish but Swedish. The archipelago is at the same distance of Sweden and Finland. Åland is issuing their own stamps since the eighties but the Europa stamps concerned, they are late comers... only since 1994.
